Overview
Sherlock is a Python command-line tool that checks whether a given username exists on more than 400 social networks. It is used in open-source intelligence work, reconnaissance and forensics to find accounts tied to one name. You run it with one or more usernames, and accounts it finds are saved to a text file named after each username. It installs with pipx, pip or uv, runs in Docker, and is packaged for several Linux distributions.
Key features
- Searches for a username across 400+ social networks
- Accepts one or several usernames in a single run
- Saves found accounts to a text file per username
- Installs with pipx, pip, uv, Docker or dnf
Best for
Investigators, OSINT researchers and security testers who need to trace accounts for a known username. Third-party packages for ParrotOS and Ubuntu 24.04 are reported as broken, so use pipx, pip, uv or Docker there.
