Overview
Quarkdown is a typesetting system built on Markdown. It extends CommonMark and GitHub Flavored Markdown with function calls, variables and a standard library, so one source project can compile into a paper, a book, a slide deck, a website or a wiki. You can define your own functions inside the document. It is written in Kotlin and includes live preview and a command line compiler.
Key features
- Function calls with loops, conditionals, math and layout builders
- Define your own functions and variables inside Markdown
- One source compiles to plain, paged, slide and docs HTML targets
- Live preview for quick iteration
- Extensions for VS Code and IntelliJ IDEA, plus a permission system
Best for
Writers who want papers, books, slides or documentation from one plain text source without learning a full markup language. It is licensed under GPL-3.0, which matters if you plan to redistribute changes.
