Overview
OpenScreen is a free, open-source desktop app for recording your screen and editing the result into product demos and walkthroughs. It continues a project whose original author archived it after v1.5.0, under the same name and MIT license. You capture a window or the whole screen, then add zooms, cursor effects and a webcam overlay. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and adds no watermark.
Key features
- Record a window or full screen, with microphone and system audio
- Automatic or manual zooms that can follow the cursor
- Webcam overlay and custom cursor size and click effects
- On-device automatic captions with an editable transcript
- Chat-based AI assistant that applies edits to the timeline
Best for
Creators and developers who want polished demo videos without a subscription or watermark. The README says the project is under active development, so expect rough edges and possible breaking changes to the project format.
