Overview
ttyplot is a small utility that plots data from standard input in real time, in text mode on a terminal or console. You pipe in the output of tools such as ping, snmpget, netstat, ip link, sar or vmstat, and it draws a live graph. It can calculate rates for counters and show up to two graphs on one display, using reverse video for the second line. Braille and block characters are supported experimentally. It is packaged for several systems including Debian, macOS and FreeBSD.
Key features
- Plots numbers piped from stdin in real time
- Rate calculation for counter values
- Up to two graphs on one display
- Experimental braille and block element support
Best for
Handy for sysadmins who want a quick live graph of ping times, CPU or network counters over SSH. Pipelines may need buffering disabled, for example with fflush or stdbuf.
