Overview
mise is a command-line tool that manages development tools, environment variables and project tasks from one config file, mise.toml. You commit the file, and the same setup applies in your shell, your editor and CI. It installs tools such as Node.js, Python and Go at per-project versions, loads .env files, and runs tasks with the right tools and environment. It can also declare machine setup, and you can adopt one part at a time.
Key features
- Installs Node.js, Python, Go and many more, with versions per project
- Sets project environment variables and loads .env files
- Runs build and test tasks with the tools they need
- Can declare system packages, dotfiles and services
- Runs a tool once without shell activation using mise exec
Best for
Developers and teams who want consistent tool versions and commands across machines and CI. You can start with a single tool or task and grow the config later.
